The 2018 Eastern Meet |
||
Another First Generation Monte Carlo Club Eastern has come to a
close. About 9 members arrived on Wednesday and were able to
wash their cars at the hotel wash station on Wednesday and Thursday
morning. Of course there was Bench Racing Wednesday night.

My First Eastern Meet I am a new member to the FGMCC club and attended my first Eastern Meet at the Chevrolet Nationals in Carlisle, PA June 22-24 and had such a great time. Growing up in a “Chevelle Family”, I thought someday I’d have a Chevelle, but the first time I saw a “First Generation Monte Carlo” about 5 years ago at a car show, I fell in love. About 3 years ago my brother and I started casually looking on the internet fairly local to where I live in NH. I found my 1971 white monte on craigslist for sale in Long Island, NY. I excitedly told my brother about it but realized it would probably be way too far to drive. When my brother told me it was “doable”, off we went! It was a long and stressful drive home with the car, but I was thrilled. My husband Peter did a lot of repairs to things it just needed replaced due to age and slowly but surely, I had my “classic car” that I always wanted. I found FGMCC in one of my many searches of Monte “stuff” and decided to join this past February and attend the upcoming Eastern Meet not really knowing what to expect. Not being an overly social person by nature, I felt a bit “out of my comfort zone” attending an event with people I didn’t know, wondering how I would fit in with the well-established group. When my husband and I arrived on Thursday evening to a packed parking lot where ‘bench racing’ had already been taking place, the butterflies kicked in, especially looking around at all the beautiful Montes. The next two days I met with the club members at 8:30am to join in the ‘parade’ to the show. Once at the show, I started to meet and talk to more members and talk about our cars. I started to realize what a sense of pride everyone had in their car and how special this “club” was because of what we all had in common. It was quite the sight to see all the Monte’s lined up at the show. First time I have ever seen so many First Gen Monte’s in one place! Spending time with everyone at the Awards dinner, door prize giveaways and ‘bench racing’ was such fun time. By the end of the weekend, I had made a lot of new friends, gained some valuable knowledge about my Monte Carlo, learned of many resources where I can find parts, etc. and brought back some great memories…and a couple of awards which I never expected! Being a part of the FGMCC gives me a new sense of pride at being a First Gen Monte owner. I only wish more of the members lived closer to me so we could get together more often. I want to thank Rob Peters and everyone else that was involved in the putting the meet together. It was very well organized with all the details taken care of so the members could just enjoy the weekend. I am already looking forward to the next meet! - Diana Tocci |
